The Winged Hussars were created as a shock cavalry unit, with members who were almost exclusively from the Polish nobility. The hussars were originally a unit of light cavalry made up of exiled Serbians, but after the military reforms of King Stephen BĂ¡thory, the hussars were reorganized. The Polish hussars (Polish: Husaria) or winged hussars were one of the main types of Polish cavalry in Poland and in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth between the 16th and 18th centuries.
